Community Media Trust

Community Media Trust is a not-for-profit company that provides media production and interpersonal communication services, mainly focused on health and human rights. Our various campaigns and programmes aim to empower the people of South Africa with information and support in accessing health and social services.

CMT has become established in the non-profit sector as a leading provider of social and behaviour change communication services and has more than 20 years of experience in informing and inspiring South African communities with impactful communication projects.

Our extensive media service portfolio includes television, radio, documentaries, out-of-home advertising such as billboards and street poles, print and digital publishing including web-based and social media, and on-the-ground activations.

Our experienced creative team follows a proven methodology to develop bespoke campaigns for our clients, from branding, imagery and messaging, to the creation of IEC (information, education and communication) materials.

We ensure the effectiveness of our campaigns by conducting participatory workshops, focus-group discussions and pre-testing with target audiences.

Our outreach teams provide interpersonal communication services in communities across the country, motivating and supporting people to reduce their risk of HIV infection and to access health services, and to support those living with HIV to remain on treatment. We are guided by a holistic, evidence-based approach that addresses various socioeconomic realities and structural issues.

CMT has 412 staff members. Our headquarters are in Cape Town and we have teams based in Johannesburg, Tshwane, Rustenburg, Brits, Klerksdorp, Mahikeng, Mthatha, Queenstown and Butterworth.

We are a Level 2 BB-BEE compliant company and take pride in upskilling and training young black media professionals and community-based facilitators. In addition, CMT enjoys Section 18A Public Benefit Organisation status, which allows contributions to the organisation to be tax-deductible.
