GroundUp publishes news that matters. They report human rights stories across South Africa.
South Africa’s Constitution gives people the rights to housing, education, health, safety, a decent environment, justice, food and dignity. Their stories show what these rights mean in daily life.
GroundUp was started in April 2012 as a joint project of Community Media Trust and the University of Cape Town’s Centre for Social Science Research. They became a fully independent non-profit news agency in March 2021. GroundUp and CMT continue to have a close relationship.
